“第二届地理信息科学中可视化与虚拟环境发展-虚拟地理环境”
国际会议总结纪要

“第二届地理信息科学中可视化与虚拟环境发展-虚拟地理环境”国际会2008年1月7 日到 8 日在香港中文大学成功举行。这次大会由香港中文大学太空与地球科学研究所主办,香港王宽诚教育基金会资助,香港中文大学太空与地球科学研究所所长林珲教授以及英国伦敦学院大学(UCL)高级空间分析中心主任 Batty教授任会议共同主席。来自美国、英国、德国、日本、以色列、台湾、香港、北京、南京、武汉等 80 余名参加了学术研讨会,国际地理信息科学著名学者、美国科学院院士、美国加州大学圣塔巴巴拉分校地理系 Michael F. Goodchild 教授,国际上第一位 GIS 博士学位获得者、宾州州立大学(Pennsylvania State University)地理系的 Donna J. Peuquet 教授与该系的蔡国瑞教授,德国 2008 年莱布尼兹奖获得者、慕尼黑工业大学(Technical University of Munich)的孟立秋教授,以色列特拉维夫大学(Tel Aviv University)Juval PORTUGALI 教授,日本京都立命馆大学地理系 Keiji Yano教授,英国的 Andrew LOVETT 教授、Ifan SHEPHERD教授、程涛教授等,微软公司的陶闯教授,香港地区的叶嘉安院士、梁怡教授、李志林教授、周启明教授、黄波教授、江斌教授等,大陆内地闾国年教授、龚建华研究员、朱庆教授、李清泉教授、万刚教授等参加了会议。会议一共安排了 7 个会议主题报告,26 个会议报告以及 1 个专题小组讨论会(Panel Discussion)。其中的 7个主题报告如下:其中的7个主题报告如下:
Michael F. Goodchild教授的主题报告是“作为集成建构的虚拟地理环境(Virtual Geographic Environments As Collective Constructions)”,该报告对于虚拟地理环境进行了初步的思考,认为虚拟地理环境(VGE)是现实世界的形态与格局表达(不是过程表达),同时阐述了在web2.0网络时代下新概念"自发地理信息volunteered geographic information (VGI)"的基本含义与特征,对于VGE与VGI的可能集成进行了思考;
作为时空信息表达研究的资深专家,Donna J. Peuquet教授作了关于“时空信息多元表达(The Multi-Representation of Space-Time Information)的报告”,阐述了GIS从数据到概念、从形态(Form)到过程(Process)发展的基本理念,强调面向概念以及理论驱动的时空可视化分析系统设计,并以人的日常时空活动表达与可视化为案例作了说明;
孟立秋教授的主题报告“看与图外之看-面向功能可供性驱动的地学可视化(To see and see through graphics - Toward affordance-driven geovisualization)”,提出了客观事物本身具有多种用途的“功能可供性(Affordance)”与人在不同情景与交互作用下的多层次“反应、映象(Reflex)”的概念,强调了看、行动(做)对于虚拟地理环境人机交互设计的重要性;
Juval PORTUGALI教授介绍了可支持以色列与巴勒斯坦地区构筑墙与篱笆讨论的决策支持与公众讨论平台项目“用于耶路撒冷地区的决策支持系统(O' Jerusalem: A Decision Support System for Jerusalem (O JDSS)”,重点讨论了耶路撒冷地区三维墙与篱笆的建模与三维虚拟环境系统支持决策与讨论的应用;
蔡国瑞教授强调以行动(Activity)为中心(超越传统的可视化分析)的框架,设计未来虚拟服务可视化环境的重要性,并且要求该虚拟环境可以依据环境上下文知识进行自适应的识别与反应(Modeling Contextual Knowledge for Adaptive Geographic Visualization);
Keiji Yano教授,从日本京都这个历史城市的过去、现在的表达以及未来的规划角度,报告了虚拟京都(Virtual Kyoto)的不同历史时期的三维建模建设方法与过程,并且在虚拟城市中考虑了民族节日的不同场景、道具以及人群服装与行为的三维建模。虚拟京都,可以从以下网址访问:http://www.ritsumei.ac.jp/acd/cg/lt/geo/coe/index.html 。
陶闯教授,作为微软虚拟地球建设的首席专家,讲述了虚拟地球的最新功能,讨论了虚拟世界(Virtual World)与想象世界(Imaginative World)的基本特征与相互关系,强调了Web2.0时代位置(Location)的重要性,对于长尾理论、第二生活(Second Life)以及与虚拟地理环境的关系进行了介绍与思考。
其他的26个会议报告,有很多前沿的、创新性的研究,例如,游戏系统与虚拟地理环境交互界面/形式的比较结合,人群行为观察与模拟分析,支持规划以及分析的协同虚拟地理环境,地学专业模型与虚拟地理环境的集成,三维虚拟城市建模、三维道路模型与导航,移动地理信息系统与可视化制图,虚拟地理环境真实具象与抽象表达等等。
由英国伦敦学院大学(UCL)Batty教授任主持的专题小组讨论会(Panel Discussion),对于虚拟地理环境、地学可视化、虚拟世界、数字地球等研究现状、问题以及相互关系展开了热烈的讨论和思想碰撞,并认识到快速发展的现代信息技术、通信技术、网络技术,以及新型公众参与、公众活动行为以及商业模式等,对于地理信息以及虚拟地理环境理论、方法研究与应用发展,存在有巨大的挑战与机遇。专题小组讨论会最后感谢香港中文大学太空与地球科学研究所对于与这次虚拟地理环境会议的成功组织与周到安排,并建议第三届虚拟地理环境国际会议在美国召开。 (龚建华整理编写,jhgong@irsa.ac.cn,2008-1-12)
